{"id":1114,"date":"2004-07-24T00:56:44","date_gmt":"2004-07-24T05:56:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rojisan.com\/blog\/2004\/07\/missile-defense-goes-live\/"},"modified":"2004-07-24T00:56:44","modified_gmt":"2004-07-24T05:56:44","slug":"missile-defense-goes-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rojisan.com\/blog\/2004\/07\/missile-defense-goes-live\/","title":{"rendered":"missile defense goes live"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<div class=\"sourcequote\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/stories\/072304\/sta_zemissile.shtml\" class=\"broken_link\">1st missile interceptor installed in Interior<\/a> [juneau empire,  july 23,  2004]<\/div>\n<p>A 55-foot-long rocket was installed Thursday inside a barren patch of Alaska&#8217;s Interior, supplying the first component of a national defense system designed to shoot down enemy missiles.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>this goes under &#8220;politics&#8221; rather than anything useful, because most of the <a href=\"https:\/\/rojisan.com\/blog\/2004\/05\/union_of_concerned_scientists_report_shreds_missile_defense_plan.html\">technical material<\/a> i&#8217;ve seen on the bush administration&#8217;s missile defense plan says it doesn&#8217;t work, which means that it&#8217;s more about politics than reality.<\/p>\n<p>the rest of the world seems to take the missile defense project as more of a threat and escalation than a shield.<\/p>\n<p>personally, i question the priorities.  since there are only a few countries capable of sending a ballistic missile in our general direction, and we know where they are.  to me, it would be stupid to attack the united states that way, because a) the &#8220;return address&#8221; is obvious and b) the united states has demonstrated willingness to retaliate in overwhelming fashion.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"sourcequote\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/stories\/072304\/sta_zemissile.shtml\" class=\"broken_link\">1st missile interceptor installed in Interior<\/a> [juneau empire, july 23, 2004]<\/div>\n<p>Congress has appropriated more than $10 billion for the missile defense system for the next fiscal year alone and MDA estimates for 2004-2009 run as high as $53 billion.
