{"id":745,"date":"2004-04-23T15:35:14","date_gmt":"2004-04-23T20:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rojisan.com\/blog\/2004\/04\/the-new-york-times-runs-an-old-sat-image\/"},"modified":"2004-04-23T15:35:14","modified_gmt":"2004-04-23T20:35:14","slug":"the-new-york-times-runs-an-old-sat-image","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rojisan.com\/blog\/2004\/04\/the-new-york-times-runs-an-old-sat-image\/","title":{"rendered":"the new york times runs an old sat image"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ok,  this is just irresistable&#8230;. i&#8217;ve been poking around for satellite images of the north korean explosion site since it happened,  and i&#8217;m a bit surprised that none are available&#8230; at least no good ones.  anyway,  that means i&#8217;ve seen a few images of the area lately.  and then i saw one again&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>but more surprising is that the new york times is running a year-old image with a big black spot near a rail yard and not disclosing that it&#8217;s a year old.  i can only assume they picked this nice, black scorched-looking spot because it&#8217;s the only thing in the image that looks&#8230; blown up.  sorta.  only it&#8217;s not.  it was like that a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>the new york times front page, with the caption on the popup version of the image &#8220;Estimates of the death toll in a huge train blast at a North Korean railroad station varied today from 50 to several hundred, with thousands injured.&#8221;   the popup version of this image is 217k:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rojisan.com\/blog\/images\/NYT_NKorea_Image.html\" onclick=\"window.open(&#039;https:\/\/rojisan.com\/blog\/images\/NYT_NKorea_Image.html&#039;,&#039;popup&#039;,&#039;width=1131,height=690,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0&#039;); return false\" class=\"broken_link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"TN_NYT_NKorea_Image.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/rojisan.com\/blog\/images\/TN_NYT_NKorea_Image.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"122\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>the original image from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalglobe.com\" class=\"broken_link\">digital globe<\/a> is dated may 13, 2003.  this version has been scaled down, rotated and the area of interest highlighted, but the original is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalglobe.com\/images\/qb\/yongchonRR_may13_2003_psh_dg.jpg\" class=\"broken_link\">here<\/a>.
