Spring theater shoot

i’m beginning to put together plans for another theater photo shoot (examples on that link). so, to that end, i have two questions for the visitors here…

1) if you were there, or wanted to be there, for the last event, tell me what you thought of it, how to improve it and what should be different this time…

2) if you’d like to participate in the next one, tell me (either here or via email).

Baltimore Bellydance needs you

calling baltimore-area dancers, baltimore bellydance needs your help.

i’m doing this for nerissa, and because i can’t in good conscience, commit to a full year working with them… the last thing i want to do is get into something as important as this and then have to abandon it in a few months.

Currently, I am seeking one or two other people to help me run Baltimore Bellydance, both the newsletter and website, for at least the next year or so. There is no pay, this is and always has been a labor of love. If the newsletter breaks even, it’s a good issue. If you are interested and have the time to invest, there are lots of jobs that get done all the time to keep Baltimore Bellydance going.

Design skills are a plus, web skills are a big plus. Love of dance, creatvity & accountability are essential, as is an understanding of working on deadline. The newsletter is produced on a MAC platform in Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. What you’ll get in return — the satisfaction of being part of an organization that helps unite dancers and inform the Balto and DC communities of all that is going on with our art form.

photo shoot – january 30

just added, details on an event i’ve put together with sahara dance.

i’ve often talked about the challenge of photography with “moving targets” “bad lights” and “awkward expressions” – this is a new effort, an attempt to solve one of those classic problems with shooting dance performances… we’re renting a black box theater, with a good inventory of lights, and trying to make some magic.

so, if you’d like to get some new photos for the new year, or for any reason, really… i’d love to see you on the 30th. Continue reading

Announcing DCTribal to the bellydance community!!

friends and dancers:

a quick note to announce the inception of

we seek to provide support to local, regional and east coast tribal and belly dancers by providing a forum for information and resource sharing, and through hosting workshops and performances by nationally and internationally recognized teachers and dancers. in 2005 we will host the SPARK tour, Fat Chance Belly Dance/Carolena Nericcio, and Suhaila. we will also host informal parties and get togethers to discuss belly dance and how we can continue to support each other in our endeavors.

we are still working away at bringing other talented teachers and dancers…stay tuned or contact us for more information.

as a founder of DCTribal i hope that this project will continue to nurture and grow the energy for belly dance in the region, the east coast, and throughout!

peace, love and lots of happy shimmies…
