brief observations
professor lessig isn’t quite as pessimistic, the french were right, the right declares victory, the sun is trying to fry us, the moon vanishes, and now i’m just waiting for the sky to fall.

Rabindranath TagoreMy Country Awake
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where the knowledge is free, where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of the truth;
Where timeless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clean stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by these into ever widening thoughts and action;
Into that heaven of Freedom;
My father let my country awake.
why bother learning anything about history? we’ll be repeating it all again soon enough, eh?
life imitating art? nahhh…. just the first dance at wheaton college in… well, forever, i guess. the guardian has a story so does the sacramento bee and the rocky mount telegram (ok, that’s an ap story, but it was fun to see it there….)
so, wheaton kids, kick off your sunday shoes…
this article suggests a potential successor.
i’m not ready to concede the point yet. this press release [undated] describes a previous technology [orom from ioptics] that met about all these criteria except capacity, and this story puts it in early 1998 (that sounds about like what i remember). microsoft got behind this one to the tune of $9.5 million.
people tell me there are balls of ice falling out of the sky in los angeles.
so, i need a legal opinion: does this meet the technical criteria for “hell freezing over”? can we appeal?
