it’s official, at least officially released from the american psychological society, there’s a formal study [pdf] that suggests that kids that study music get smarter.
this, of course, means we can blame the cuts in arts programs (particularly music programs) in the schools for the all the recent stupid.

this is “yet another thing” i’ll need to come back and visit in some depth someday, but i think we’re watching the plateau of the modern olympic games.
this is a symptom.
i just don’t think it’s viable at this scale under these circumstances anymore. the revenue model is flawed, the production costs are extreme, and it seems to me that we’re real close to the break point.

with shipping time, you’ll need to order your i wasn’t using my civil rights anyway t-shirts (and other stuff) soon to get it in time to be detained in new york during the republican convention.
this, of course, is shameless self-promotion, but it’s important to keep ashcroft in mind while the party faithful are cheering and bush isn’t seeing any opposition.

i’ve added a button on the right column to provide more realistic election-status information than seems to be available from the major media and their nation-wide polls. yes, it’s a statistical tie when you ask everyone, but some votes count more than others, and the electoral college votes are the only ones that count at all.
this handy button, provided by electoral-vote.com gives a different perspective. hopefully one that is a little closer to what matters in this election year.
update: if that’s not what you came looking for… maybe these will help.

back in april i wrote about google shooting for an e-billion dollar ipo. and i mentioned a number that i thought was nicer. reuters is now running the ipo story.
what magic number do reuters and the meta-roj blog have in common? $1.6 billion. (ok, technically, the ipo came in at $1.67 billion and i was shooting for $1.62 billion, but…. man. i’m just that good 🙂 ).
for more serious information on the google valuation, maybe here.
