bush takes a clear position on science and life

let us be perfectly clear.

Bush Vows to Veto Stem Cell Legislation [ap via abc news, 2005.05.20]

“I’m very concerned about cloning, ” Bush told reporters in the Oval Office. “I worry about a world in which cloning becomes acceptable.”

“I made it very clear to the Congress that the use of federal money, taxpayers’ money to promote science which destroys life in order to save life is I’m against that. And therefore, if the bill does that, I will veto it.”

oh, really?

i’m not sure i understand precisely [pdf] what the president means.

one newspeak version: Report: Mini Nukes May Save Lives [cbs/ap 2003.11.10].

let’s read that one more time…

use of federal money, taxpayers’ money to promote science which destroys life in order to save life is I’m against that

we won the war on terror

just in case you had any doubts…

Environmental and animal rights activists who have turned to arson and explosives are the nation’s top domestic terrorism threat, an FBI official told a U.S. Senate committee on Wednesday.

Groups such as the Animal Liberation Front, the Earth Liberation Front and Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty are “way out in front” in terms of damage and number of crimes, said John Lewis, the FBI’s deputy assistant director for counterterrorism.

just a few organizations left – and they’re vegans and tree-huggers. ok, so they’re vegans and tree-huggers with bombs, but obviously they don’t have too many bombs, or we’d be hearing something about them instead of the attrition in iraq.

i guess this means we can finally take a critical look at all the stupid stuff we’ve done to ourselves in the past four years.

nah. wishful thinking.

gun safety?

i’m going to spin this inappropriately to suggest there is some potential for recruiting our children to make up the shortfall in the armed forces and avoid a draft.

Pre-K Student Brings Handgun to School [ap via abc news, 2005.05.18]

A pre-kindergarten student brought a handgun to school, where it was seized by a fifth-grader and turned over to the principal, school district officials said Tuesday.

The 5-year-old reportedly displayed the loaded weapon outside the Blanton Elementary School cafeteria where students were gathered before class. The fifth-grader recognized it was real and took it to the principal.

pre-kindergarden? amazing.
