take back the airwaves: cbs stiffs moveon.org

this is a call to arms. i didn’t want to jump on this while it was still “likely” – now it appears to be “confirmed.”

adage has the story – apparently cbs “standards and practices” has rejected the moveon.org “bush in 30 seconds” winner.

this is a valid, important message. the first thing you need to do is go see it yourself, here [low bandwidth version] or here [high bandwdith version].

discussion of possible responses is available at k5. i’ll give you the short version now:

call, write, fax or email cbs and tell them you disagree with the decision.
call, write, fax or email cbs superbowl advertisers and tell them you disagree with the decision.

be polite, be positive, don’t threaten or get personal.

remember, you (the public) own the airwaves. cbs is just borrowing them.

exciting cabinet meetings

on the nature of cabinet meetings in the bush administration…

paul o’neill, former bush administration treasury secretary

like a blind man in a room full of deaf people

normally i wouldn’t pile-on, but as i’ve watched it spread today, i’m amazed. the funniest things get picked up in this business of media….

so what’s the difference?

bush’s talking points preparation fails in an interview with diane sawyer.

DIANE SAWYER: But stated as a hard fact, that there were weapons of mass destruction as opposed to the possibility that he could move to acquire those weapons still —

PRESIDENT BUSH: So what’s the difference?

maybe you can think of a difference. maybe not. make up your own mind. for context, i’ve included the full set of excerpts from abc in case that link goes dead.

to the moon?

i had one of those deep-in-the-pit-of-my-stomach feelings of irony as i was reading about political happenings.

it seems that president bush is thinking about going to the moon. i’ll leave the comments about scientific value and national pride and budgets to others, but the thing that got my attention is that i read that right after i read a whole bunch of things about bush’s environmental policies, prompted by the “healthy forest act.”

the thought i had with this terribly coincidental timing was… “why bother going to the moon when we can make one right here?” 🙂

the distributed mobile hecklebot works

first introduced here as a crappy-movie-avoidance mechanism, the distributed, mobile hecklebot has gone from passive to active with the chasing bush effort in london.

of course, i’m not in london to see how well it’s working, but it’s gotten news coverage, which, ultimately is the point – it has succeeded in drawing attention. the message is getting out.

so, bush may have escaped the parliamentary heckling, but not so much the ground-level heckling.

the public filters back

some time ago, we learned that the bush administration, and dubya in particular, is unhappy with the “media filter” and was going to “go local” to “bypass” the “filter”…

today, i learned that the folks at moveon.org were going really, really local and sponsoring a project to “Create a TV ad that tells the truth about George W. Bush.”

i wonder how bush is going to try to get around that filter?

politics takes a page from technology

it occurs to me that perhaps this “mission accomplished” banner and announcement back on may 1st was something like releasing a large new software package.

maybe “mission accomplished” was really iraq 2.00.95 – like windows 95 – “see, look. pretty!” since may 1st, we’ve had several patches, but no service packs or minor revisions. maybe we’re approaching iraq 2.00.95a now. if the comparison holds, we should have this all figured out in a few years. watch for iraq 2.00.95c osr 2 with un support – that’s the one you want.
